Your videos are your work, and we know it. Protection on Monassati works by itself from the very first video, without you doing anything. And your student who paid and watches from their own device won't notice it at all: no puzzles to solve, no blocking screens, no sudden lockouts.
What protects a video?
- Locked to your enrolled students. A video only opens for a student who is signed in and enrolled in the course. If someone copies the link and sends it to a friend, it won't play for them.
- No download button. And the links change by themselves every few minutes, so a student never sees a message about an old link, and a copied link stops working within minutes.
- The student's name and number on the video. A faint line with their name and full phone number fades out gently and comes back somewhere else every so often, and stays in full screen. If someone films the screen with another phone, their name is in the recording.
- The hidden mark. Each student gets a copy of the video with a mark the eye can't see, unique to them. If a video leaks, even if it was filmed or the name was cut off, we can usually tell you whose account it came from.
- A device limit. Each student can use up to 3 devices and watch on one at a time. Students remove an old device themselves at any time, so nobody gets locked out.
- A quiet eye on anything odd. If an account pulls a video faster than any normal viewing (a download program), we slow it down by ourselves and the video keeps playing. If an account is opened from many places, or its devices change a lot, you get a calm alert. The decision is always yours; we never lock a student out by ourselves.
Students know from the start that their name is on the video: there's a line in your academy's terms, and a calm line the first time they watch: "Your name shows faintly on the video to protect your teacher's lessons from copying. Nobody sees it but you."
What does the student see?
Almost nothing. The video plays as normal, starting at the lightest quality so it starts fast on a weak connection, then going up by itself. The faint line with their name is there, but it's small, doesn't cover the board, and taps go straight through it to the video.
The only messages they might see are friendly and come with the fix:
- If they open the video on a second device while it plays on another: "The video is playing on another device right now. Carry on here?", and the old device pauses with "We paused the video here because it was opened on another device." and a "Carry on here" button.
- If they reach the device limit: they pick an old device to remove, and carry on straight away.
The "Protection" page
From your academy dashboard → Protection:
- Alerts: one summary a day at most, and every alert has clear buttons: "Send a friendly note" (opens WhatsApp with a ready note you can edit), "Sign the account out everywhere", "Block the student" and "It's fine". What each one does is written before you confirm. And when there's nothing: "All good. Nothing odd at all."
- Report a leak: if you find one of your videos outside. The steps are in Found a leaked video from your courses?.
Alerts switch on after we tune their limits on real viewing, so we don't bother you with a false alarm. Until then, slowing down any download program works from day one.
Changing the number of devices
From Advanced settings → Protection:
- Devices per student: from 2 to 5, ready set to 3. Why 3? The phone in the browser, the same phone from its icon if they installed the academy (on an iPhone these count as 2 devices), and a laptop.
- How many devices can play at the same time: one device (the ready setting) or two, if siblings watch from one account in the same home.
- Tell me about anything odd: on. If you turn it off, the protection itself keeps working as before.
What isn't protected, honestly
- YouTube videos. If you choose "YouTube video", it doesn't carry the student's name or the hidden mark, and anyone with the link can watch it. If the lesson is paid, it's better to upload it as a protected video. If you do use YouTube, make the video "Unlisted" so it doesn't show up in search.
- Files, PDFs and notes. They download to the student's device, so they can be passed around. To protect them, put your name or your academy's logo on them.
No protection is 100%
No website in the world can stop someone filming the screen with another phone, and nobody can honestly promise "it can never leak". What we do is make a video hard to get for anyone who isn't enrolled, and make sure that whoever leaks it can usually be found: their name is on the video, and the hidden mark is inside it.
And if you ever need stronger protection, like the movie platforms have ("advanced protection"), we're thinking about it as an add-on later.
