Raise hand and chat

How a student asks to speak, and how you let them speak or reply to them in the chat.

Who can speak in the lesson?

The first students to join can turn on their mic and camera. If the class is big, students who join after them can only watch and listen until you let them speak. This makes the lesson lighter on everyone's internet.

A student raises their hand

The student presses Raise hand. You'll see a "Hand raised: Ahmed" card with two buttons:

  • Let them speak: the student can turn on their mic and camera.
  • Later: the card disappears and the hand goes down.

You can also open Students and press the speak icon next to any name to let that student speak without raising their hand.

Chat

  • On a phone: from More, choose Chat. On a computer: the chat is in the side panel.
  • Messages go to everyone in the lesson.
  • Students write from the Chat button on their screen.

Chat is handy for a student whose internet is weak or who can't turn on their mic.

If a student is being disruptive

  • Ask them to turn off their mic on their side.
  • If you have to, open Students, press the remove icon next to their name, and then "Remove". They're out right away, and they can't come back to this lesson with their link.
