A student sees "Your teacher closed joining with the code"

Removed someone who joined with the class code? The code closes for the rest of the lesson. Here's why, and how to get your students in.

A student tells you they're seeing "Your teacher closed joining with the code. Ask your teacher for your personal link."? That's not a fault, it's protection. The fix takes a minute.

What happened?

In this lesson, you removed someone who had joined with the class code, not with their personal link. (In the Students list, "Joined with the code" shows next to their name, in the browser and in the app.) As soon as you remove someone like that, Hessety closes joining with the code for the rest of this lesson only, so that if it was a stranger, they can't come back in with the same code.

Before you remove them, Hessety warns you: "If you remove them, joining with the class code closes for the rest of the lesson."

The Remove … from the lesson? window, with a warning that joining with the code will close

And after you remove them, you'll see: "Joining with the code is closed for the rest of the lesson. Students with their own links still get in."

What does the student see?

Anyone who tries to join with the code after that, in the same lesson, sees "Your teacher closed joining with the code. Ask your teacher for your personal link.", whether in the browser or in the app.

What do you do now?

  • The student's name is in the class? Send them their personal link from the class page (the "Send" button in the app, or "WhatsApp" on the website). Their personal link gets them in as usual, even while the code is closed.
  • The student isn't in the class? Add them to the class, and send them their link. The steps are in Add students and send their links.
  • Not in a hurry? The code works again by itself in the next lesson.

So it doesn't happen again

  • Send each student their personal link from the start, and keep the code for emergencies.
  • Once all your students are in, lock the door from More, so nobody new can get in at all. See Lock the lesson door.
  • Send the code to your students only, not in public groups.

The details on the code and the links are in Class code and permanent links.
