Students can't hear you
- Make sure the Mic button is on (no line through it).
- If you've plugged in a headset, make sure its mic is the one selected: More → Audio settings in the app, or More in the browser.
- Make sure the app or browser has permission to use the mic:
- Windows: Settings → Privacy & security → Microphone, and allow access.
- Android: Settings → Apps → Hessety → Permissions → Microphone.
- Browser: click the lock icon next to the address and set the microphone to "Allow", then refresh the page.
- Close any other program that might be holding on to the mic, like Zoom or Teams.
- Leave the lesson and come back with "Back to lesson".
You can't hear your students
- Turn up the volume on the device itself, and make sure it isn't on silent.
- If you've plugged in a headset, make sure it's the one selected in Audio settings, or unplug it and try the device's own speaker.
- Make sure the student has their mic on. If they joined to watch and listen only, you need to let them speak first. See Raise hand and chat.
- In the browser, if a "Tap to hear your students" button appears, press it. Some browsers, especially on iPhone, only play sound after a tap.
Echo or whistling
This usually happens when someone has their mic on and the sound is coming out of their device's speaker, so the mic picks the sound up again.
- Ask everyone to wear headphones.
- Or have anyone who isn't speaking turn off their mic.
The student is on an iPhone and the sound stops
An iPhone may stop the sound if the student locks the screen or opens another app. Ask them to keep Safari open in front of them for the whole lesson.
