The lesson won't open? Take a breath. Most problems have an easy fix, and the message on your screen tells you what happened. Find it below.

Before anything else

  • Open the latest link your teacher sent you, the whole thing, with nothing cut off.
  • Make sure your internet is working: open any other website.
  • Open the link in Chrome or Safari, not inside Facebook or Instagram.
  • "The lesson hasn't started yet"? That's not a problem! Your teacher just hasn't started yet. Keep the page open, and you'll go in as soon as they start.

The messages and what they mean

The message you see What it means What to do
"The teacher has locked the door. Ask them to let you in." Your teacher locked the lesson door after everyone came in. Message your teacher on WhatsApp that you're outside. As soon as they open the door, press Try again.
"This link isn't valid. Ask your teacher for your personal link." The link is cut off, or it's old and doesn't work anymore. Ask your teacher to send you your link again. If you have the class code, press Join with a class code.
"This class code isn't valid. Check it with your teacher." The code was typed wrong, or it's another class's code. Check the code letter by letter. A tip: a code never has 0, O, 1, I or L in it, so if you see something that looks like them, look again.
"Your teacher closed joining with the code. Ask your teacher for your personal link." Joining with the code was closed for this lesson. Ask your teacher for your personal link, and join with it.
"This lesson isn't taking more guests with the code. Ask your teacher for your personal link." The places for people joining with the code are full. Ask your teacher for your personal link.
"Too many attempts to join with the code…" or "Joining with a code is paused for a few minutes…" You tried lots of times in a row. Wait a few minutes and try again, or join with your personal link.
"This lesson is full right now." The lesson has reached the most people it can take. Wait a bit and open the link again, or tell your teacher.
"The teacher removed you from this lesson." Your teacher took you out of this lesson. If it was a mistake, talk to your teacher. You can join the next lesson as usual.
"You can't join this lesson right now. Ask your teacher to check their subscription." Something in your teacher's account needs sorting out. Tell your teacher. The problem isn't on your side.
"Connection problem" Your internet is weak or down. Move closer to the router or turn on mobile data, and press Try again.
"We need your mic and camera" The browser isn't allowed to use the mic or camera. See If your sound or camera isn't working.
The teacher has locked the door message for a student in a phone browser, with the Try again button under it
The door is locked: wait for the teacher to open it, then press “Try again”

If you're joining with the code, the message shows in red above the Join lesson button, and your code and name stay filled in, so fix the mistake and try again straight away.

The This link isn't valid message, with the Join with a class code button under it
Link not working? Join with the code until your teacher sends you the new one

Stuck on "One moment…"?

  • Wait a few seconds. Sometimes the internet is slow.
  • Refresh the page, or close it and open the link again.

From the Hessety app

The same messages show at the top of the "Join lesson" screen. Fix what they say, and press Let's go in again. If you're joining from My lessons and the link doesn't work anymore, ask your teacher for a new link and paste it in.

Still stuck?

Tell your teacher on WhatsApp, and send them a screenshot of the message you see. They have a full explanation of this problem in A student can't join.
