The app is asking for an update

Seeing "Update available" or "Update the app"? How to update on Android and Windows. Your classes stay just as they are.

We keep improving Hessety, and every so often a new version comes out. Updating takes a minute, and your classes, students and their links stay just as they are.

Two kinds of messages

  • "Update available": a small mark at the top of the app, or "A new version of Hessety is available." The version you have still works, but it's best to update soon. Tap it to download the new version.
  • "Update the app": a full screen that says "This version of Hessety is too old to work". Here you have to update to carry on. Tap "Download the new version".

Got a lesson right now, the app wants an update, and your internet is slow? Teach from the browser today, and update after the lesson. See Teach from the browser, nothing to install.

On Android

  1. Tap "Download the new version" or "Update available". Hessety's page on Google Play opens.
  2. Tap Update, and wait for it to download.
  3. Open Hessety again.

Or open Google Play yourself, search for Hessety, and tap Update.

So you don't have to remember, turn on automatic updates: in Google Play, open Hessety's page, tap the three dots at the top, and tick Enable auto update.

On Windows

  1. Click "Download the new version" or "Update available". The new installer downloads.
  2. Close Hessety, and run the file you downloaded.
  3. The installer updates the version you have. Open Hessety again from the shortcut on your desktop.

If Windows says "Windows protected your PC", click More info, then Run anyway. The details are in Download the app for Android and Windows.

If you see "This version of the app doesn't support the video provider"

The version you have can't work with the video service the lesson is using. Update the app with the same steps above, and go back to the lesson.

The update won't download?

  • Make sure there's enough space on your device.
  • Check your internet, and try Wi-Fi instead of mobile data.
  • If Google Play can't find an update, close it and open it again, or wait a little: a new version sometimes takes a while to reach every phone.
