A course is what your students join: sections with lessons inside (a protected video, YouTube, a file, a written lesson or a live lesson). You make one from your academy dashboard → Courses → + New course, on your phone or a computer.
A new course in two screens
1. "What's the course called?"
Write a name that tells students exactly what they'll study, like: Physics, 3rd secondary - first term. We make the course a ready picture in your academy's colours with its name on it; you can change it later.
2. "How do students get in?"
Pick one:
| Choice | What it means |
|---|---|
| Paid | The student pays and gets in straight away, and the money goes to you. Type the price in pounds, or tap a ready price: 100 · 150 · 200 · 300. |
| Free | Any student makes an account and watches. Nice as a start or for revision. |
| Code only (for centres and bookshops) | You sell codes elsewhere and the student types the code to get in. The course shows no pay button. |
Subscription length: set to "For good". To change it, tap Change how long:
- For good: the course stays with the student for good.
- A month, renewing: the student pays every month. If they don't renew, the course locks for them until they do. (This is the "monthly subscription".)
- Number of days: like 120 days for a term, from the day the student joins.
- Until a date: the course is open to all students until a set day, like the last day of term.
Not sure about the price? Tap I'll decide later: the course is made as a draft and we'll ask for the price before you publish it. Everything here can change later from Price and length inside the course.
The course editor
After you tap Make the course you'll find a ready section called Week one, with a big area in it: "Drag your first video here, or choose it from your device". On a phone: Upload your first video from your phone.
- Sections: tap the pencil next to a section's name to change it, like "Chapter one: motion". + New section adds "Week two" and so on.
- Lessons: tap + Lesson and pick a kind (below). Reorder lessons and sections from the three-dots menu next to each: Move up · Move down · Move to another section.
- About the course: the course picture, and a short description we wrote from the name; edit it as you like.
- Everything saves by itself. If the course is published, every change reaches your students straight away.
Kinds of lesson
| Kind | What it means |
|---|---|
| Protected video (recommended) | Uploaded to us, shows the student's name, and nobody can download it. Details in Uploading a video from your phone or computer. |
| YouTube video | Free and doesn't use your space, but not protected: anyone with the link can watch and download it. |
| PDF file or notes | The student opens or downloads it. Up to 200 MB per file. |
| Written lesson | An explanation in words, like a summary sheet. |
| Live lesson | You link it to one of your Hessety classes. Details in Live lessons in your academy. |
A YouTube lesson
- Paste any YouTube link as it is: from the "Share" button in the YouTube app, a
youtu.belink, Shorts, or a link with a time or a playlist. We show the video's picture and title so you can check it's the right one. - Set the video to "Unlisted" on YouTube so it doesn't show up in search.
- The first time you add YouTube we remind you, once, that YouTube videos don't have Hessety's protection (no student name, no hidden mark). If the lesson is paid, it's better to upload it as a protected video.
| What you'll see | What to do |
|---|---|
| "That's not a YouTube link" | Open the video on YouTube, tap "Share" → "Copy link", and paste it. |
| "That's a playlist link" | Open the video itself from the playlist and copy its own link. |
| "We can't open this video" | Make sure it's "Public" or "Unlisted" on YouTube, not "Private", and try again. |
Files and notes
Files download to the student's device, so they can be passed around. To protect them, put your name or your academy's logo on them. Kinds: PDF, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, pictures and zipped files.
Free preview lesson
Every lesson has a Free preview lesson switch: students can watch it before they join. Opening the first lesson is a nice way to let students try your teaching.
Lessons open on dates
From More settings at the end of the course, switch on Lessons open on dates and pick the day and time each section opens, Cairo time. A section whose date hasn't come yet shows to students as locked, with when it opens.
The "What protects your videos?" card
In the course editor there's a card that tells you, honestly, how protected videos are protected: the video is locked to your enrolled students only, there's no download button, the student's name and number show faintly on the video, and every copy carries a hidden mark. No website in the world can fully stop screen recording; what we do is make sure whoever leaks it can be identified. Details in Protected videos.
See it as a student, and publish the course
- See it as a student opens the course as an enrolled student would see it. Nobody but you sees that page.
- Publish the course makes it show in your academy so students can join. It needs at least one lesson, and a price if it's paid.
- A video still getting ready? We don't stop you publishing. We ask: "Publish now and hide this lesson until it's ready, or wait?". If you publish, the lesson appears for your students by itself as soon as it's ready.
- Your academy isn't published yet? The course goes live for your students as soon as your academy does, and everything is saved.
- After publishing, tap Send it on WhatsApp and WhatsApp opens with a ready message and the course's link.
Hiding or deleting a course
From the three-dots menu next to the course in Courses:
- Hide it from the academy: new students don't see it and enrolled students carry on as normal. Bring it back with Show it in the academy again.
- Make it a draft again (inside the course): nobody new can join until you publish it again.
- Delete the course: only possible when nobody is enrolled, so no one loses a course they paid for. If students are enrolled, hide it instead.
Activation codes: selling the course at a centre or a bookshop
An activation code opens the course for one student, once. You print codes as cards and sell them at your centre or a bookshop, and the money for codes is yours, completely outside Hessety.
How to make codes
- From your academy dashboard → All tools → Activation codes → + New batch of codes.
- Pick the course and type the number of codes (1 to 500 per batch; if you need more, make several batches).
- Name the batch so you can find it later, like Al-Haram centre - November.
- The code opens the course for: the same as the course, a number of days, or for good.
- Last day to use the code: optional. Leave it empty if it's open-ended.
- Tap Make the codes.
Then:
- Download the codes (Excel): a file with every code and its status.
- Print cards: 10 cards per A4 page; print them and cut along the dashed line. Each card has the code and how to use it.
- In the list you'll see each batch: "37 of 100 used", and who used each code and when.
- Stop the unused ones: if cards get lost or the batch is over, the codes not used yet stop, and the used ones keep working for their students.
How a student uses a code
The student opens your academy's link, makes an account, goes to My courses → Got an activation code?, and types the code. The course opens for them straight away. Codes are in English letters, and we fix small typing slips (like lowercase letters or spaces) by ourselves.
